Future-Proofing

Planning & Flexibility

2025-01-08

I find a huge component of future-proofing is a combination of planning and flexibility.

I treat everything like carpentry: measure twice, cut once.

It is very easy for people to rush to get something out.
Whether by personal choice or through poor management, rushing can cause detrimental mistakes:

  • In technology, pushing out a product that has not been tested, can cause huge failures.
  • In marketing, publishing erroneous materials, can cause bad publicity and a lack of trust.
  • In sales, getting that contract out the door even though it may be incorrect, can cause a loss financially.

This list goes on.

To future-proof anything, you need to plan your move. Check your plan. Then, be flexible if your plan needs to change.

Remember that once you make your cut, it is final.
Be sure you have measured twice.
