Leadership

Not A Manager

2025-03-06

I have been talking about leadership and how a leader is more than just a manager. He encourages his team to succeed by providing them the means to do so, but what exactly does that look like?

I often see companies struggle with when and how to leave the toxic landscape of micromanagement and embrace strategic leadership.

Here are a few examples of when to take action:

  • Your team are growing, but decisions still bottleneck at the top.
Instead of requiring executive approvals for every little change, set a clear decision-making framework and trust your team to follow through.
  • Your senior staff are not mentoring juniors.
A strong team builds itself, together. Be sure to encourage peer mentorship and leadership development to avoid knowledge gaps.
  • Your team execute just fine, but lack innovation.
This is a very clear sign that you have managers who are simply telling people what to do, instead of inspiring their teams to speak up about new ideas or ways to solve problems creatively. Good leaders ask the correct queries that get their teams thinking for themselves.

Here is where a fractional executive helps organisations build strong, self-sufficient teams that do not rely on constant oversight.

If you feel like you are digging more in the weeds than developing strategies to fly, you probably need to step back and see about a different way to lead.

Do you need help making the shift?
Send me a message, and we will sort it out together :)
